How To Break Through Your Weight Loss Wall

If there’s one thing that just about everyone has to deal with when they’re trying to lose any weight at all it is that, at some point or another, you’re likely going to hit the wall. This could take any number of forms. You could find that your progress slows for some reason, or it could simply be that you lose a lot of the motivation and momentum that kept you going at the beginning.

That being said, the wall is not impenetrable. There are almost always ways in which you can break through it. Which ones work for you will depend on a lot of different factors, but here are three simple options that you might want to try.

How To Break Through Your Weight Loss Wall

1. Detox

Detoxing is one of the best ways to get through that initial barrier when you first start trying to lose some weight. A lot of the weight that you’re carrying tends to include water weight, and detox teas can be incredibly useful for helping you drop that weight while also getting rid of toxins in your system.

There are plenty of different detox teas on the market, but this Fit Tea review might give you a good sense of how effective they can be. If you recognize the brand, you may recognize it from a celebrity page on Instagram .

2. Focus on density

There are few things more frustrating than feeling like you’re constantly going hungry and you’re still not seeing any real results. This is one of the most common reasons why a lot of people end up giving up on losing weight entirely.

However, this often comes down to one major error. You can’t just cut your portion sizes and expect the weight to fall off of you.

The reality is that foods like fresh fruit and vegetables contain a lot more water, which means that you can eat a lot more of them and become full while consuming far fewer calories than if you were eating highly processed foods, or foods high in salt or sugar.

3. Get help from a friend

Sometimes the diet wall doesn’t appear all at once but rather sneaks up on you. You start out by taking a day off, then over time, you take more and more. And eventually you’ve given up entirely. By having someone else around who can give you support, they can help stop you from falling into those kinds of bad habits and keep you honest. It’s easy to convince yourself not to bother; it’s much harder to justify it to someone else.

Of course, it’s important to remember that just because you’ve broken through the wall doesn’t mean that you aren’t necessarily going to come up against another one. Losing weight is a long and often difficult process, and you need to be willing to put in the right amount of work to get the results that you really want. But if you can stick to it and not let any obstacles get in your way, it’s going to be worth it the end. You are worth it!

You’re Not A Vampire, So Enjoy The Benefits Of Garlic

benefits of garlic

Is it because it tastes funny? Or, is it because it makes your breath smell bad? Whatever the reason, there is no good excuse to avoid eating garlic. For one thing, it brightens the flavors in every meal. More importantly, though, it has medicinal properties which are great for the body. Yep, if you aren’t already aware, eating more garlic can help regulate the immune system as well as tackling diseases. And, you don’t even  need a prescription from a doctor.

Here, then, are the ways garlic can help keep you fit and healthy. Eating more of it might be one of the best decisions you make regarding your well-being.

7 Benefits Of Garlic

1. It Contains Allicin

In simple terms, allicin is the reason for the pungent smell. When you chop or crush garlic, it combines with alliinase and develops a strong odor. The reason this is important is that allicin has lots of medicinal qualities, too. Because it is an antibacterial, viral, and fungal chemical, it can treat a broad range of illnesses. In fact, throughout history, garlic was used as a form of medicine rather than a cooking ingredient. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, it can help everything from nausea to a common cold. There are other foods which contain this element, but garlic has the highest concentration. So, eating more can help battle sickness and regulate your health.

2. It Tackles STDs

One fact which you may or may not be glad to hear is that garlic tackles STDs. Sexually transmitted diseases can be difficult to talk about. But, the health risks are pretty severe too, with some leading to infertility. Let’s face it – sometimes people make mistakes when it comes to sex. And, that can leave you in a quite vulnerable spot. Obviously, an industry professional such as Safer STD Testing might appeal as a safer option. However, for those who want to tackle the topic discreetly, garlic is a reliable option. Thanks to the allicin, it helps fight viral or bacterial infections which may spread as a result of sexual activity.

3. It’s Tasty And Low In Calories

Moving away from bacteria and viruses for a minute, let’s focus on weight. It isn’t a secret that lots of guys and girls want to shed a few pounds. And, less surprising is that it sometimes isn’t an easy goal to achieve. Simply put, there is too much temptation from a food point of view. No one wants to eat to live, and enjoying a meal isn’t an unreasonable request.

Of course, the problem is tasty food contains lots of calories, except garlic. Per clove, there are only five calories according to the USDASo, putting two to three cloves into a dish will only result in ten to fifteen calories. But, because of its flavorsome taste, one usually does the trick. Also, it’s easy to incorporate into a diet as it tastes so good.

4. It Can Reduce Blood Pressure

It’s easy to assume that cigarettes and alcohol are the world’s biggest killers, but this isn’t true. In reality, it’s heart disease and strokes which top the list. Now, they might seem like issues you can’t combat, yet you can by reducing your blood pressure. Too much tension in the veins, arteries and capillaries can lead to blockages and ruptures. When this happens, the heart works overtime and pushes itself to a breaking point.

Of course, lowering cortisol levels and eating a healthy diet will do the trick. And, this is where garlic comes into play. Because of its nutritional value, there are no unhealthy saturated fats and fatty acids. Plus, a study found that 600 mg of garlic was effective at lowering cortisol and blood pressure levels. You have to eat up to four cloves a day, but it isn’t as hard as it sounds.

Consuming 4 cloves of garlic per day can lower your blood pressure.

5. It’s Good For The Mind, Too

The above tips have focused on the physical benefits of garlic. Well, let’s take a look at the impact it has on the mind. Remember that a healthy body needs a healthy mind as one affects the other. Thankfully, there is no reason to worry about your mental state when you get a daily dose of allicin. The antioxidants in garlic combine to protect against oxidative damage. Also, there is an increase in antioxidant enzymes. What does this mean? The Journal Of Nutrition reports that the antioxidants protect against cell damage and prevent the onset of mental aging. Regarding brain diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s, they reduce the risk of contracting the illness.

6. It Boosts Life Expectancy

It’s worth noting that studies to prove this theory don’t exist, at least not human studies. Still, it doesn’t stop the experts from confidently predicting longer life expectancy to be a benefit. It isn’t hard to see why when you look at the facts. For one thing, the physical benefits of eating garlic are wide-ranging. From lowering stress to reducing the risk of heart disease, it tackles the main health threats in life. There aren’t many foods which can boast the same. Plus, garlic helps to regulate the mind as well as the body. With a healthy brain and body, it isn’t unreasonable to assume life expectancy will be higher thanks to a garlic-allicin combination. The fact it aids athletic performance is just another string to its bow.

7. It’s A Natural Detoxifier

The body regulates itself, but it needs help from time to time. Take metals as an example. Although the majority of people don’t eat metals, they still occur naturally in the body. Heavy metals can be a health risk. When the metals become toxic, they can begin to attack the vital organs. The solution is to detoxify the body, and garlic is a perfect answer. Why? It’s because it contains sulfur, and sulfur protects organs from toxic metals. Another study found that garlic reduced lead levels in the blood by nearly 20%.

As you can see, garlic has an array of health benefits. So, if you don’t already include it in your diet, you might want to change your approach.

Can you think of any other health benefits of garlic you’d like to add? Do you have a favorite garlic recipe you want to share?

15 Simple Strategies To Detox Naturally

Before getting Lyme disease 5 years ago, then recently learning I have several MTHFR gene mutations (which essentially make it more difficult for my body to detox) I wasn’t intentional about detoxifying.

I made healthy choices, but detoxification was not part of my daily routine.

However, now that I know the cumulative effect of the environmental toxins, medications, pesticides and preservatives I’m making better choices in an effort to heal and strengthen my body.

Maybe you’ve had a similar experience?

What Is Detox?

Although detoxification (detox) might be thought of as trendy, the process of cleansing the body has been around for centuries, influencing many cultures. Both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurvedic medicine include methods for removing toxins from the body. (1)

According to Dr. B.J. Hardick,

“Toxins have been a known problem from the very beginning of medicine and healing.”

Whether you realize it or not, your body is exposed to all sorts of toxins every day. From pesticides on fruits and vegetables to breathing in environmental toxins.

So, how can you detox your body from these harmful substances?

And is detox something you can do once or twice a year and call it good?

Actually, the best approach is making it a part of your normal routine, making a lifestyle change.

And although this might sound a bit daunting at first, here are fifteen simple strategies to help you detox naturally. Many of them are easier than you might expect.

Ways To Detox Naturally

1. Drink Lemon Waterdetox naturally

Drinking lemon water has many surprising benefits. Lemons are full of vitamin c, fiber and antioxidants. In addition to detox, these include healthy skin, an enhanced immune system, heart health, healthy weight and a reduced risk of many types of cancer.

2. Dry Skin Brushing

Dry brushing your skin before bathing encourages blood circulation, assists with lymph drainage and helps shed dead skin.  You can buy a dry skin brush on Amazon for very little money. This is the dry skin brush I have and it works great!

3. Sweat

Taking a hot bath with epsom salts, sitting in a sauna, or exercising hard enough to break a good sweat are all effective ways to get rid of harmful toxins.

After researching portable saunas for a couple of years, my sweet husband bought me this one for Christmas and I love it.

4. Get A Massage

Deep tissue massage releases toxins. Just make sure to drink plenty of water to flush the toxins out of your system afterwards!

5. Drink Green Tea

Green tea is not only delicious and antioxidant-rich. The naturally occurring polyphenols in green tea fight free radicals in the body and promote liver detox.

6. Try Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting promotes cellular repair through a cleansing process called autophagy. When our diets are poor this wears out our cells, particularly the mitochondria, which need to be replaced. Intermittent fasting gives the body time to focus on this essential cleansing process.

For more on this you may want to read The Quick Guide To Intermittent Fasting.

7. Exercisedetox naturally

When you work out it helps flush toxins out of your organs and muscles. Even if you don’t have time for a long, intense workout session, a gentle walk, yoga or even simple stretching of the large muscle groups can free up toxins.

8. Probiotics

Taking a daily probiotic supplement introduces good bacteria into the gut.

Eating yogurt and fermented foods such as kimchi and sauerkraut and drinking kombucha (fermented green or black tea) are all probiotic-rich.

These products can promote good bacteria and kill off bad bacteria. By balancing the bacteria in the gut you can get rid of many toxins.

9. Manage Stress

When we mull stressful situations over in our mind they can create a toxic environment for our bodies. Chronic stress makes the body more susceptible to illness and disease, so it is essential to address and manage stress in your life.

Many people find that a long walk does wonders for their mental state and helps put things in perspective. Others prefer to talk to a friend of loved one. Another effective idea is to write what you’re feeling. A gratitude journal can help you keep a positive mindset, especially if you write things you’re grateful for.

10. Eat Superfoods

Superfoods including cabbage, beets, garlic, ginger, seaweed, cauliflower, flax seeds and pomegranate support the liver in eliminating toxins naturally.

11. Eat Whole Foodsdetox naturally

Whole foods are free from artificial additives and preservatives. Examples of whole foods include fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds. These are the healthiest, most naturally detoxifying foods we can eat….which leads me to #12….

12. Avoid White Sugar, White Flour and Preservatives

As much as we may love (or be addicted to) sugar it is just plain bad for you.

(Please don’t shoot the messenger.) I know how disappointing (yet not surprising) this news is to some of us. I have had a sweet tooth since before I could talk. Just ask my mom.

But sugar has not been a good friend to us.

In addition, white bread, white rice and white pasta are considered simple carbohydrates and can be harmful for your health.

Also, foods that come in boxes and packages tend to have lots of preservatives and additives that add to our toxic load. We are can stay at our healthiest when we focus on eating whole foods and foods closest to their natural form.

13. Prioritize Sleep

Setting aside plenty of time to sleep each night gives the body time to recover from the day’s events and recharge for what’s to come. Not making sleep a priority can have a negative impact on health over time.

14. Eat More Fiber

Include plenty of fiber in each of your meals to make sure your body is able to….ahem….keep things moving.

And that’s a good thing. The (constipating) alternative allows harmful toxins to build up in the digestive system which can negatively impact your entire body.

15. Avoid Environmental Toxins

These include smog, secondhand smoke, pollution, noxious fumes and others.

We can control our exposure to some of these factors. For example, if you work in an area with many pollutants, getting fresh air when you have a break can help reduce your exposure. And every bit can help.

But I realize some of us can’t help where we work or live so just do your best and don’t worry about the rest. (My kids love it when I say this. :))

So I recently started making videos and posting them to YouTube.

The Takeaway

I hope this list and video gave you some useful ideas for how to detox naturally. You may already be doing some of them. And, if you’re like me, you might want to concentrate on improving on a few that don’t occur organically in your daily routine.

Carving out a little extra time in your day to drink lemon water and green tea, exercising, eating fiber-rich whole foods, taking probiotics, prioritizing sleep and dealing with stress are all some effective strategies to help the body detox naturally.

5 Easy Ways To Detox

Whether you’re “as healthy as a horse” or dealing with chronic illness, detoxing is essential in helping the body get rid of harmful toxins.

Before getting Lyme disease I’d heard the term “detox” thrown around once or twice. But once I became chronically ill, detoxing quickly became a necessity in my ongoing journey back to health.

Fortunately, there are some simple ways to help your body get rid of harmful toxins.

5 Easy Ways To Detox:

1. Drink lots of water with lemon. It’s great to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day, but drinking at least 2 liters a day is even better!

Water helps to flush toxins out of the body. Lemons can help support the immune system and stimulate the liver to help remove toxins.

2. Dry brush your skin before showering. This helps shed dead skin, encourages blood circulation and assists with lymph drainage. You can buy a dry skin brush on Amazon for very little money. This is the one I have and it works great!

3. Sweat the toxins out of your body by taking a hot bath, sitting in a sauna, or exercising hard enough to break a good sweat. After researching portable saunas for a couple of years, my sweet husband bought me this one for Christmas and I love it.

4. Eat a variety of fiber-rich fruits and vegetables. Nourish your body with whole foods.

5. Emphasize the positive. We all have those days (or weeks) when we don’t feel our best or feel exhausted from a busy schedule. I’ve found that if I look for things that I’m grateful for throughout the day it changes my perspective and can help me cope with potentially stressful situations.

There are several other ways to detox, but hopefully this will give you some things to think about and try. I hope you find this list helpful!easy ways to detox
